What drives the price
Genuine, OEM supplier, aftermarket
Headlight assemblies and control modules are an OEM category. They carry coding, leveling motors and, on Multibeam and adaptive LED, per-segment control the car checks at every start.
Hella, Magneti Marelli and Valeo supply many of these housings and ballasts. Where a supplier-labeled unit exists it is the same optic for less.
Aftermarket is safe on standard bulbs from Osram or Philips and on simple lens seals. Generic full housings usually fail the coding check or the beam pattern, and California cares about both.
